Qualified Best
I have a dog at home named Lulu. She tends to need a fair amount of attention (even in her old years), so my aunt would always humor her (as if Lulu could understand) by saying “Lulu! You are the cuuutest dog in this whole house!” It’s easy to be the best when you qualify it that much - which is fine for helping my dog’s self-esteem. Not so for advertisements though.
Today on the radio I heard a spot for that new show Commander-in-Chief, encouraging me to watch “the best new show on Tuesday nights.” At first I thought, “What? That’s surprising… oh.” After all those qualifications… are there any other new shows on Tuesday nights? I mean, hey, it was pretty easy for me to earn Best Senior Debater when I was the only high school senior in debate. (I was good though. Honest.) Clearly they couldn’t get away with calling it the best show (Veronica Mars!). They probably couldn’t get away with calling it the best new show (The Closer, definitely). And at that point… is it really saying anything?
Z, I didn’t know you watched VMars and The Closer. Veronica is definitely the best show on el telly (spanish for “the telly”). And The Closer was my favorite new show of 2005 too! It’s like we’re twins, except I’m so much prettier!

Hi my favorite grandson born on my birthday. Just found your website or blog (what’s the difference?) in my list of neat people I want to talk to — therefore, however, whatsoever and whatnot, I just wanted to say hello — heard about your new job and know you must be excited about moving to Seattle and making a lot of money. Hope to see you in Omaha before you leave for the great northwest. Lots of rain but not much snow — that souds pretty good compared to the cold stuff in Pittsburg. I wear my Grandma shirt to workout 3 times a week and have gotten several comments — Did you live in Pittsburg? Did you go to CM? Are you really a grandma? Yes, that’s right — the elderly have a sense of humor. By the way, would you send a birthday card to Dale at my address. His 80th will be in March and Char is having a surprise dinner for him. I’m in charge of getting lots of cards to give him on Sunday, March 12. Thanks. Well, I’m off to hit a bucket of balls in preparation for the 2nd round of our club championship. Shot an 82 last week and am in second place in my flight! Not bad for 81 and counting, huh? Love ya, Grandma
